Position: Arts Administrator  
Job Type: Part-time one year contract with possibility of extension/permanent role

On Main Gallery is an artist-run organization dedicated to encouraging, producing, and presenting contemporary visual and media art from emerging and established Canadian artists. We are looking for a reliable and organized administrator for a part-time position based in Vancouver, B.C. The successful candidate will be reporting to our creative director, Paul Wong, and providing support to the organization’s day-to-day operation, programming, and community outreach.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate and maintain documents, such as notes, reports, and meeting minutes
  • Write and submit ten to twelve grant proposals per year under the guidance of the creative director
  • Draft public announcements, e-newsletters, and social media posts
  • Handle correspondence between internal and external contractors
  • Assist with the coordination and planning of exhibitions and events under the guidance of the creative director
  • Conduct community and volunteer outreach for major events
  • Assist with creating and keeping budgets
  • Manage files and email database

Qualifications:

  • Education or training equivalent to an undergraduate degree, combined with 3 to 5 years of work experience in the field of arts administration
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in grant or proposal writing preferred
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Able to multi-task, problem solve, and prioritize multiple projects
  • Strong reading, writing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail
  • Good level of computer literacy, including MS Office Suite, Google doc, Mac OS
  • Strong knowledge in web publicity and social media marketing (Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter)
  • Good budgeting skills and basic understanding of bookkeeping
  • Experience in copywriting is an asset
  • Experience in coordinating volunteers is an asset
  • Holding a BC driver’s license an asset
  • Knowledge in Chinese language skills (read, speak and/or write) is an asset


Remuneration:
$23/hour with a guarantee of 10 hours per week and up to 30 hours per week during events and exhibitions production
